Bayou Road

Saturday, November 13th (Night)

Since it was dark, we really didn’t know much about where we were.  We did know that we were on a 40+ acre tract of land with several buildings, including corrals for horses.  The stars in the sky were incredible.

The owner (Mr. Fernandez) and his wife live in one home, a manufactured home that was put on the site after Katrina.  Sister and another CSJ live in one house, one that was originally Mr. Fernandez' father’s house.  It was flooded with about five feet of water after Katrina, but has now been restored.

We are staying in a separate five-room two-bedroom cottage.  This cottage has an interesting story.  It was actually on another property and was torn off its foundation by Katrina's surge.  It floated around and came to rest a few hundred yards away on Mr Fernandez’ property.  Since it was made of cypress, it floated and was relatively undamaged.  The original owner didn’t want it and offered it to Mr. Fernandez.

Mr. Fernandez decided to jack up the house and move it to it's present location on his property.  He and his wife did a gut rehab on it.  It’s like living in a project from HGTV.  Updated kitchen & bath, restored cypress trim, built-in hutches, etc.  The kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked with all essentials.

We went to sleep to the occasional neighing of horses and hooting of owls.
