Make It Right Foundation

The Lower Ninth Ward is the home of the Make It Right Foundation founded by Brad Pitt.  More than 4,000 homes were destroyed by the storm and the surge of water caused by the breach of the Industrial Canal levee.  Pitt founded Make It Right to build 150 affordable, green storm-resistant homes for families living in the Lower 9th Ward.  Make It Right has completed more than 50 homes so far.

The homes are difficult to describe.  See for yourself:

It was a sobering visit.  New homes would be sited right next to a storm-battered abandoned homes

Or maybe all you would see would be a foundation and some steps – the rest of the house had been swept away.

Very surreal.  Tourists like us, gawking and stopping to take pictures.  New life, evidence of past destruction and the levee still is a looming presence.
